"The goal of Little Tor Elementary School is to provide the opportunities and experience to help each child reach their potential as a lifelong learner."


ABSENCE & TARDINESS
To ensure your child's safety, please call (914) 639-6367, prior to the start of school on the day that your child will be absent. Our answering machine will take your message between 4:00PM and 8:15AM. The secretary will also answer calls from 8:15AM until 9:00AM. Kindly state your name, your student's name, grade, teacher, days absent and the reason for the absence.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
Perhaps our most popular PTA activity is our After School Program which offers a wide variety of classes for students. Details regarding registration will be sent to you by the PTA. Classes usually start in early October.

BREAKFAST PROGRAM
Breakfast is also available for students at Little Tor Elementary School. Students who are eating breakfast in our cafeteria will enter the building before 8:20AM, but not earlier than 8:00AM. The regular price of breakfast is $1.00. Student who qualify for free or reduced lunch, will also qualify for free or reduced breakfast. On days of delayed opening, breakfast will not be served.

BUS TRANSPORTATION
Transportation will provided only to students who reside more than one mile from school. Pupils are not permitted to transfer from one bus to another. They may ride only the bus to which they are assigned and must be admitted with a pass. Students will receive assigned seats.

CAFETERIA
At our "Cafetorium", hot lunch, including milk, is served daily, costing $1.60.An alternative lunch is also available. Paying by the month is more economical, as lunch costs only $1.30 daily (i.e. 9/13 - 9/30 -12 days- is $15.60 vs. $16.80 on a daily rate) A container of milk is 35 cents. Children may also purchase snacks, including ice cream.

CONTACTING YOUR CHILD
DURING SCHOOL HOURS

If there is an urgent need or emergency during school hours to reach your child, he/she will be call to our office phone to speak to you.

DISMISSAL
Students may not leave the classroom without permission. They may not leave the school grounds until they are dismissed. All children must be signed out and picked up in the office when being dismissed early.

EMERGENCY CLOSING
In the event that the school is to be closed because of inclement weather conditions, hazardous roads or other emergencies, an announcement will be made over your local WRKL radio station.

HOMEWORK
It is recommended that parents show a keen interest in their child's homework. In grades 1, 2 and 3, assignments may be given Monday- thursday for approximately 30 minutes. In grades 4 and 5, assignments should not exceed 60 minutes. On occasion, assignments may be given on a Friday. Extended research projects may also be assigned over a period of weeks, in the upper grades. This helps the child to learn organizational of work, planning and critical thinking skills. Your cooperation and support are crucial in reinforcing good study habits in the elementary grades.

REPORT CARDS
Report Cards are distributed four times a year.
